Two years after Redchip Lawyers successfully acquired Hynes Legal – Queensland’s leading strata law firm – the practice has been renamed Redchip Stata Law to reflect the firm’s full service offering to clients.

Redchip director Rob Lalor said the acquisition had dramatically increased the scope of work that the firm now offered to its clients. Where previously the two firms had referred work to each other, now the expertise for property transactions of all types resides in-house.

“Hynes or our strata team had previously done strata or management rights work separately – now we’re able to deal with the real estate side more effectively: commercial real estate, development structuring, and private M&A in that strata management space,” Mr Lalor said.

Partner Frank Higginson said he was excited to be staying on under the new Redchip structure and helping grow the expanded practice.

“The melding with Redchip has certainly given our strata clients access to far broader legal expertise than we had at Hynes and our pure strata and management rights focus,” Mr Higginson said.

“Two years in, I wouldn’t be continuing this relationship unless I thought it was working.”

After two years of integrating the merged entity, systems were operating smoothly and internal client support across legal specialisations was proving its value to clients.

“For example, we’ve got a couple of litigators who are very strata focused,” Mr Higginson said.

“But of course, in body corporate, strata and management rights, there are always other legal issues that come up. The litigation team at Redchip is excellent at what they do, so when an issue goes outside that pure strata space, we’ve now got access to specialist expertise in-house.”

Mr Lalor said the overarching sense of client service and excellence from both Redchip and Hynes staff had allowed the combined team to effectively work together.

“That culture of excellence and of service provision is going to shine through in a broader sense with our clients and with the type of work that we do across the business,” he said.

“Strata now permeates a lot of what we do. It’s allowing us to undertake more complex and larger real estate deals with heavy strata components which we wouldn’t otherwise have done unless we had the depth of experience that we get from having that expertise from our strata team.”
